The armor suit was slightly modified, with the armor on the front glacis being modified from the original configuration and Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) blocks mounted on the front hull. The tank was generally similar to the pre-production Type 98, but with a variety of minor changes. The Type 99 was the most advanced Chinese MBT at the time of its introduction in 2001. There are evidently a number of variants of this tank, and the association of specific designators with specific configurations is not particularly robust. The Type 99 is also referred to as ZTZ-99 or by the industrial designator WZ-123, the same used for the Type 98/ZTZ-98. I test fitted the two hull parts and it is a great fit.Type 99 Main Battle Tank ZTZ-99 / WZ-123 / MBT-2000ĭeveloped from technology developed in a number of Chinese MBTs, the Type 99 was originally mistaken as a continuation of the Type 98 series (sometimes referred to as Type 98G). On the underside there is injector pin marks but none of these will be seen once the side skirts are attached, like the lower hull however you will require to remove a small amount of flash and sprue gates. As the bottom part of the hull, they have continued with the fine bolts, weld seams and other crisp details like the lifting triangles for the engine deck and intake vent for the engine. ![]() Moving onto the top half of the hull now and they have done a reasonable job moulding this component, they have moulded the anti-slip areas very finely and consistent, maybe to fine and consistent. The lower hull is very simple and nicely moulded with good detail such as fine bolts and weld seams, some minor clean-up will be required to remove a small amount of flash and sprue gates, however, this is nothing that should concern you . Like most Tank kits, these are the two biggest single items in the box, split like normal with the lower hull and top hull in two pieces.
